A slip closes State Highway 11 for the rest of the day
The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists in the Far North that State Highway 11 will remain closed for the rest of the day and probably tomorrow as well.
A slip is blocking the road just south of Opua in the Lemons Hill area.
A detour via SH10 will add an additional 10 mins to the journey between Paihia and Kawakawa.
Meanwhile State Highway 15 is open to traffic again. It had been closed for periods this morning while a crane recovered a logging truck that ran off the road overnight west of Titoki.
The forecast for Northland today is for periods of rain, occasionally heavy with isolated thunderstorms and downpours.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead if going out, check the weather and road conditions and if possible avoid travelling in extreme road and weather conditions.
Drive to the road and weather conditions, allow more time for your travel, slow down, be prepared for unexpected hazards and allow greater following distance between you and the vehicle ahead. The room for mistakes is reduced when road and weather conditions are less favourable.
