Oamaru highway repair work begins in town centre

Oamaru highway repair work begins in town centre, SH1 between Orana Park and Exe Street

The NZ Transport Agency’s Highway Highlanders contracting team begins a roading rebuild programme in the coming days between Orana Park and Exe Street in Oamaru along State Highway 1.

Crews are setting up this week from today, Tuesday, 13 February and potentially will start milling the southbound lane from Wednesday. The work is likely to take eight days to complete, depending on the weather.

Crews will aim to keep one lane open at all times, however Stop/Go manual traffic may be required to allow plant and material access. People may need to build in a few extra minutes if they normally travel through Oamaru along the main highway/ Severn St.

“While the work is being carried out there may be limited access to side roads,” says Transport Agency Network Manager Chris Harris.

“We ask people who need to get to the businesses in this area to build in some extra time and planning and thank everyone for their co-operation and patience while this work is completed.”
