Heavy rain brings down a slip and closes SH11
in Northland
The NZ Transport Agency advises that a
slip has closed State Highway 11 just south of Opua in the
Lemons Hill area in Northland.
The highway will not
be opened until the slip has been cleared and geotechnical
engineers have assessed that the hillside is stable and
safe.
The detour via SH10 will add an additional 10 mins
to the journey between Paihia and Kawakawa.
And motorists on State Highway 15 can expect short term road closures just west of Titoki after a logging truck went off the road overnight.
The road will be closed for up to 30 minutes at a time with stop/go traffic managers in place to allow vehicles through when possible. Please expect delays or avoid the area if possible.
The forecast for Northland today is for heavy rainfall, occasionally heavy with isolated thunderstorms and possible downpours.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead if going out, check the weather and road conditions and if possible avoid travelling in extreme road and weather conditions.
Drive to the road and weather
conditions, allow more time for your travel, slow down, be
prepared for unexpected hazards and allow greater following
distance between you and the vehicle ahead. The room for
mistakes is reduced when road and weather conditions are
less favourable.
