Auckland-only Police wing begins training on Monday

Largest Auckland-only Police wing in 40 years begins training on Monday

The largest Auckland-only Police wing in over 40 years is set to begin training at the Royal New Zealand Police College on Monday.

Eighty additional Police officers from Wing 314 will be on the beat in Tāmaki Makaurau in a few short months helping to keep our communities safe.

Thirty-eight of them are heading down to Wellington on an Air New Zealand flight from Auckland Airport on Sunday and will meet with two of Auckland’s District Commanders and other Police staff before they begin this exciting journey.

Assistant Commissioner Districts John Tims says having 80 extra Constables in Auckland will be a huge boost to policing numbers and is great news for the community.

“The extra staff will be spread across Counties Manukau, Waitemata and Auckland City Districts and will mean more staff on the front line responding to calls from our community, holding offenders to account and keeping people safe.

It is also great to see the range of diversity in Wing 314.

We have a real mix of recruits from Maori, Pacific, Asian and New Zealand European backgrounds.”

Media are invited to attend to see the recruits together before they head to the domestic terminal at Auckland Airport to depart for Wellington.

Media are asked to gather at 10:30am at the Aviation Security Service building at 6 Cyril Kay Road, Auckland Airport.

Media are asked to RSVP to Shelley Nahr.
