Sausage Sizzle Still Kiwi Favourite
Sausage Sizzle Still Kiwi
Favourite
Auckland, 3 February 2018. Not that
you needed proof – but we thought we’d give you it
anyway – 94% of Kiwis believe sausage sizzle is a real
piece of Kiwi culture.
As some of us still bask in the near-record temperatures this summer has brought, nothing beats finishing off the day with a good old BBQ surrounded by family and friends. According to Canstar Blue, for 75% of Kiwis this is the main way we socialize over the summer.
“It really is an institution” comments Canstar Blue’s Emma Quantrill. “It’s just something we love to do and for four out of five New Zealanders, a BBQ is an essential home appliance.”
A nation of meat lovers
With BBQs
proving so popular it’s no surprise that the most recent
figures from the Farming and Agricultural Organization of
the United Nations show that New Zealand has the sixth
highest meat consumption in the world.
Quantrill
continues:
“We’re one of the largest exporters in the
world but we also like to chomp our way through 106.4kg of
meat per person, per year. That’s the equivalent to
around 1,700 sausages each. No wonder we like to BBQ!”
