Metlink thanks customers for patience as rail services resume in Wellington
Rail services in Wellington have restarted after a major overhead electrical fault at Wellington Railway Station.
“Metlink apologises to our customers for the delays and inconvenience it has caused, and also for the flow on effect this had on other travellers in Wellington,” says Metlink’s General Manager Public Transport Wayne Hastie. “We also want to thank customers for their patience and good humour given the hot weather, and their willingness to seek alternative ways to travel.
“Since being notified of the power outage, teams from Metlink and KiwiRail have been working hard on fixing the fault and ensuring other parts of the train network kept working. We also brought in as many train replacement buses as possible for customers who could not find alternative transport. Metlink will be working with KiwiRail to investigate the cause of the power cut.
“There is a possibility that some early timetabled services on Wednesday morning could be affected due to the need to reposition trains on the network. We encourage customers to sign up for My Metlink at www.metlink.org.nz for up to the minute alerts, or keep an eye on station information signs for details on your train services.”
