Unions Wellington Calls for Justice for ‘Five Boroughs’ Workers
This afternoon Unions Wellington met with a number of staff from 'Five Boroughs'. This business has recently gone into liquidation, leaving staff owed over $32,000 in wages and holiday pay.
While this store closes, the owners have rebranded another restaurant they own as the 'new' 'Five Boroughs'.
Unions Wellington believes it is unfair, unjust and unacceptable that employers can expect workers to lose their pay while they re-establish the same business a few minutes away.
Unions Wellington's position is that the failure to protect staff wages in this process is a gross injustice, and it needs to be rectified as soon as possible. We have approached the business owners proposing an urgent meeting to discuss this issue and seek a fair resolution.
If we are unable to discuss and resolve this issue, we will be looking at all our political, legal and protest options.
