PopUp Business School to pop up in Upper Hutt
Budding entrepreneurs living or working in Upper Hutt will have the opportunity to attend a free ten day business course from 12 – 23 March.
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 26 JAN 2018—Upper Hutt City Council has partnered with the business community to bring the PopUp Business School Aotearoa to the city as part of its economic and social development initiatives.
Over ten days, PopUp delivers twenty workshops designed to equip participants with the tools they need to start their own business. Topics include building a website for free, the quickest way to find a customer and how to start a business with no money. The courses do away with traditional thinking by replacing business plans with actionable, no-cost steps.
“We are excited about PopUp Business School because it gives our community an opportunity to gain some key business skills that they might not otherwise be able to access,” says Council’s Economic Development Manager, Phil Gorman, who has been working behind the scenes since last year to make PopUp happen in the city. “PopUp Business School will help enable social and economic development in Upper Hutt by supporting local people on their journey to business success.”
The PopUp Business School was bought to New Zealand from the UK last year by Kiwi Tony Henderson-Newport. The first course ran in Porirua in October 2017 with a second planned for Whanganui in February 2018.
The course is run by Henderson-Newport and Upper Hutt resident, Anna Watson. Registrations are due to open in February at www.popupbusinessschool.nz/upper-hutt. While the course is free for participants to attend, Henderson-Newport said it would not have happened without the generous support of its funding partners and the Council is providing a venue for the course in the city centre.
“We are grateful to our partners: the Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club, Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency (WREDA), Xero, local business Farrah’s Wraps, Upper Hutt Business and Professional Women’s Club, and Upper Hutt City Council. They recognised what this opportunity means for the community and came onboard. We are just so excited to get stuck in.”
WREDA Business Growth and Innovation General Manager David Jones says helping establish Upper Hutt’s PopUp Business School goes to the heart of what the agency does.
“Like other cities in the region, Upper Hutt is packed with people who want to start a business but don’t necessarily know how to proceed. Building a path to success will not only help these
