Truck tipped SH1 Waipapa Bay north of Kaikoura, traffic on route held up
Tresca Forester, Transport Agency Journey Manager reports that:
A truck became stuck/ tipped over but still upright at the single lane section of Waipapa Bay, north of Kaikoura, SH1 before 3 pm today.
The road is closed between Clarence and Mangamaunu and Picton to Christchurch traffic is being redirected at each end onto the Alternate Route, the Lewis Pass. Crews are working to clear traffic out of the SH1 corridor slowly and carefully around the truck site and the truck will be righted as soon as possible.
The Alternate State Highway 1, Lewis Pass, is the official detour.
SH1 through Kaikoura was due to close tonight at 8.30 pm and will reopen at 7 am tomorrow.
