Palmerston North City Ambassadors Take to the Street
Keep an eye out for our friendly City Ambassadors hitting the pavements around Palmerston North’s Central Business
District this week.
City Ambassadors will provide information and direction to members of the public to ensure people enjoy a safe, vibrant
and connected summer around our city centre.
Ambassadors can be recognised by their green uniform with slogan ‘Palmy is the Place to be’.
Two ambassadors will be rostered on at a time to patrol around the city centre six days a week. Ambassadors are trained
in conflict resolution and will lend themselves as an extra pair of eyes and ears on the ground.
The three month trial will run through to the end of February and is modelled on successful safe city programmes in
Hamilton, Hastings and Wellington.
The ambassador scheme was recommended by the Palmerston North Safety Advisory Board which includes NZ Police, SafeCity
Trust and a range of other agencies.
The Safety Advisory Board works with Council, the community and other agencies to set the strategic direction for
initiatives to make our city safer.
“This initiative is about making the city more vibrant, liveable and connected by increasing visitor satisfaction,
promoting the Central Business District and assisting with community safety” Ian Littleworth, Libraries & Community Services, Community Engagement Manager says.
The trial will be assessed after three months to determine future viability.
