Packing the Bus for a Cause
Santa Claus came to Queen Margaret College on Thursday 30 November, but he wasn’t dropping presents off … he was collecting them.
The Breeze, in support of Wellington City Mission, brought a bus with Santa on board to Queen Margaret College as part of the annual “Pack the Bus” campaign to help the community at Christmas time.
Year 8 students organised for the bus to come to school to be filled with gifts and toys from students and teachers.
The school has worked on the event with Wellington City Mission for at least 5 years.
Children had the opportunity to pack out the bus with items. They even got to meet Santa and share some Christmas Carols.
Year 8 Dean Natasha Selkirk says she estimated around 500 gifts and food items had been donated by the school from all levels.
“We had donations from the Middle School, the Junior School, the Pre-School and even some staff donated. Many people donated several items,” she says.
“We also used the money raised by Year 8 through the Community Fair in Term 3 to purchase gifts and food to donate.”
