InterCity’s east coast services are back
InterCity’s east coast services are back in time
for Christmas
InterCity is
pleased to announce the return of services on the reopened
State Highway 1 north of Kaikoura from 18 December
onwards.
InterCity will operate morning and afternoon services in both directions between Picton and Christchurch.
As well as doubling frequency between Picton and Christchurch, the services will allow InterCity passengers to travel from Picton to Dunedin in one day.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to resume services in this special part of the South Island,” says Sam Peate, InterCity Group General Manager, NZ Coachlines and Auckland Tourism.
“Keeping Kaikoura connected during the road closure has been very important for us, and it’s great that the town is now accessible from the north as well.”
InterCity’s premium GOLD seats will also be available along the route. GOLD seats are comfortable leather reclining seats with extra legroom and personal USB charge points.
Passengers travelling to and from Nelson will be able to connect in Blenheim. Capacity is being doubled along this route to cater to the increased demand over the summer peak season.
InterCity’s current morning-only inland service via Springs Junction and Hanmer Springs will finish operating on 17 December.
Ongoing roadworks and stop/go signs on SH1 will affect travel times, and the new timetables have been adjusted to reflect this. Some smaller suburban stops in Christchurch have been temporarily removed to ensure services run on time.
InterCity will continue to review its timetables and stops as travel times along SH1 improve.
The new services
are available to book now for travel from 18 December
onwards. For full details, visit www.intercity.co.nz.
