Community Outcomes Guide Council’s Planning
The Hurunui District Council has reconfirmed the intended community outcomes of its 2018-2028 Long Term Plan (LTP). The
six community outcomes will be included in the LTP and guide the council’s future decision making.
The six outcomes agreed to by the council are to make the Hurunui district:
• A desirable and safe place to live
• A place where our traditional rural values and heritage make Hurunui unique
• A place with a thriving local economy
• A place with essential and appropriate infrastructure
• A place that demonstrates environmental responsibility
Public Services Manager, Audrey van der Monde, says the community outcomes the council has agreed to ensure the
interests of the community remain at the heart of council decision-making.
“These outcomes align with the council’s strategic direction. All proposals put forward in the long term plan will have
these outcomes at heart, which will continue to place the community at the centre of all council operations.”
Community outcomes are about community aspirations for the future and describe what people consider important, not only
to benefit today’s people, but for future generations.
Mayor Winton Dalley says the agreed outcomes help the council to deliver its aspirations for our communities.
“These community outcomes will help guide council staff and councillors in assessing the implications of any projects or
proposals. The council has a responsibility to its residents and ratepayers and these community outcomes bring a focus
to that responsibility.”
The six community outcomes adopted by the council will now be included as part of the 2018-2028 LTP, with public
consultation on the plan beginning in next year.
