Pro-Wrestling Returns to Porirua AT ACPW Commonwealth Conflict
PORIRUA: Professional wrestlers from around the world will arrive in Porirua this December as part of All Commonwealth
Pro-Wrestling (ACPW)'s debut event.
Wrestlers representing Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand will compete for bragging rights at Commonwealth Conflict at Mungavin Hall on Saturday, December 2.
ACPW Director and Porirua pro-wrestler Paul Sayers is excited to bring wrestling back to the area for the first time in
eight months.
"Last time we had a near sell-out crowd with people from all over the region and from many different age brackets,"
Sayers said. "Mungavin Hall came alive that night and it was something that will stick with many.
"I feel this is the best and cheapest form of entertainment in the Wellington region with over two hours of
action-packed professional wrestling live and in person for only $10 a child.”
Sayers will also wrestle at Commonwealth Conflict, taking on Australia’s Jonah Rock in the featured bout of the night. Known as "The Monster", Rock currently holds three
national championships in Australia and has wrestled around the world, including for the prestigious Pro Wrestling Noah
organisation in Japan, and California-based Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG).
“Jonah Rock is a name that is known around the world, a heavyweight trained with the best, and has been a critical part
in training others in wrestling," Sayers said. "To have him here in Wellington was vital for ACPW.
"The idea of wrestling Jonah is a scary thought as he’s one of the toughest and strongest in the world. I just hope I
can still attend the Windley School camp come Monday.”
Another key match-up scheduled for December 2 pits New Zealander Shane "The Shooter" Sinclair (a medal-winner in
freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling at the 2008 Oceania Wrestling Championships) against England's "Hooligan" Marcus
Kool.
