The Incredible Race
Thursday 26 October 2017
An annual event run to keep Christchurch’s frontline tourism staff up to date with the awesome activities and visitor experiences available in the city kicks off tomorrow.
The Incredible Race 2017 is being held for the fifth time, giving participants first-hand knowledge to pass on to visitors to the city who ask, “So what is there to do in Christchurch?”
The fun, interactive event is based on the reality television game show The Amazing Race, with teams racing around the city to key destinations where they complete activities and answer questions about the pit stop. Teams have been asked to dress up and comprise three or four people from key tourism organisations and services, such as hospitality providers.
ChristchurchNZ Marketing General Manager Rowan Worner said the city had changed a lot since the race started five years ago – and even since it was held in 2016.
“The central city is transforming, with the opening of cafes and restaurants, smart new shops in the retail precinct and visitor attractions. We need our frontline staff to be aware of all the city has to offer so they can share this with the many visitors they meet daily.”
Rowan said there was great merit in the event being held annually, as there was traditionally a lot of turnover in frontline tourism roles.
“It’s also great to hold this event as the weather starts getting warmer and we prepare for the influx of summer visitors.”
