Living Creatively to be Celebrated at Great Glenorchy Getaway Day on 22nd October
Family market day event in Glenorchy on Sunday, 22nd October
to focus on “Living Creatively, From Head to Toe”
GLENORCHY, NEW ZEALAND, 11 October 2017 – The last Great Glenorchy Getaway Day <https://www.theheadwaters.co.nz/general-store/gggday/> for 2017 will be Sunday of Labour Weekend, 22nd October. The multi-faceted free event features six creative
workshops, 18 market stalls, award winning international jazz, cider and spirits tastings, a Spring dinner and family
fun.
The theme is “Living Creatively, From Head to Toe.” Headlining the event is award-winning Bluff poet, and artist, Cilla
McQueen <https://nzpoetryshelf.com/2016/05/02/poetry-shelf-interviews-cilla-mcqueen-im-always-listening-its-a-subtle-thing-poetry/>, New Zealand’s Poet Laureate for 2009-2011 and author of 14 volumes of poetry. The toe-tapping will be headlined by
international award-winning Brazilian jazz guitarist and vocalist Nanny Assis and his band, in town for the Queenstown
Jazz Festival.
Mrs Woolly’s General Store is hosting the Great Glenorchy Getaway Day from 10am to 8pm, and the workshops, music, market
stalls, family activities and last Camp Glenorchy ‘sneak peek’ tours are all free. Mrs Woolly’s General Store is also
holding its first ever Super-Special Sale with 10% off all non-food items throughout the store on 22nd October only. As
always, all profits from sales benefit the community of Glenorchy through the Glenorchy Community Trust.
The range of 18 market stalls will showcase local cheese, preserves, candles, fruit trees and plants, healthy snacks,
handcrafts, fresh produce, wine and food, jewelry, furniture, crafts and a visit from Dunedin’s The Rocker Man <https://sturobbie.co.nz/> showcasing a range of hand-made wooden outdoor furniture.
Six free workshops will be running throughout the day. Bring your own writing to read, perform or work on with author
and artist Cilla McQueen; tune in to your inner-jazz performer with world-renowned and award winning Brazilian Jazz

The final public ‘Sneak Peek’ tours of Camp Glenorchy <https://www.theheadwaters.co.nz/whats-coming/camp-glenorchy-construction/> before it opens in early 2018 are scheduled at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Visitors will discover how Camp Glenorchy will be
able to operate year-round using Net Zero energy from the grid as well as use 50% less water than similar
accommodations. An impressive 26m x 5.5 m Scheelite Campfire Shelter designed and built by Glenorchy artist Dan Kelly <http://dkd.nz/> is also a must see, along with the South Island’s largest solar garden, and beautiful braided river stone mosaic
pathways designed and built by landscape artist Jeffrey Bale <http://jeffreygardens.blogspot.co.nz/>. They’ll also get an early peek at what the well-insulated year-round cabins look like inside, and a chance to see
the inspiring new meeting and function space located in the Homestead Building.
Children’s activities include family races (Pitching a Tent in Record Time), a musical workshop, children’s craft table
where families can make their own bird feeders from scrap timbers from Camp Glenorchy, and take a breath-taking
helicopter ride over the head of the lake at the extra-special price of $99 per person.
At 4pm, 2017 International Cider Awards Gold Medal winner Zeffer <http://www.zeffer.co.nz/> Ciders will offer a taste of their range of North Island-made ciders ($10pp) and at 5pm The Cardrona Distillery <http://www.cardronadistillery.com/> is running a unique tasting session ($15pp) to introduce visitors to The Reid Single Malt Vodka, The Source Gin and
Rose Rabbit Orange Liqueur, along with a special-treat cocktail made especially for the occasion with Mrs Woolly’s
house-made vanilla gelato!
A delicious, healthy Spring Dinner prepared by Habebe’s <http://www.habebes.co.nz/> is served at 5.30pm accompanied by live jazz and dinner speakers Cilla McQueen and international photojournalist
Maggie Gould <http://maggiegouldphotos.wixsite.com/maggie-gould>. Maggie will then join Nanny Assis and keyboard artist Kevin Field to perform an entertaining mix of jazz and
Brazilian rhythm at 6.30pm.
