Welcome spring with the MEGA Buggy Walk
Welcome spring with the MEGA Buggy Walk at the Wellington Botanic Garden
The forecast is looking good for the Mitre 10 MEGA Buggy Walk being held this Thursday, 5th October at the Wellington Botanic Garden.
Now in its twelfth year, the October walk is the largest of the monthly buggy walk series held throughout the greater Wellington region. Organised by Sport Wellington, the walks provide opportunities for caregivers and children within the community to connect with other families while enjoying the surroundings of their own ‘backyard’.
The event is free to attend with no registration necessary, participants are encouraged to simply show up for an fun morning filled with activities, prizes and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
The walk is timed with the beginning of spring as it is one of the most beautiful times to stroll through the garden and see the flowers blooming. There is a choice of two walking routes through the garden and participants are advised to arrive at the Soundshell at 10.00am, with the walks set to start at 10.30am.
Sport Wellington’s event organiser Anna Carrington says “We’re so lucky to have the opportunity to run this event at the Botanic Garden at the start of spring, it’s such a good way for the community to get outside and enjoy being active in one of Wellington’s most loved environments”.
The free event is run alongside a number of sponsors, with snacks courtesy of Southern Cross Restaurant and Bar. A number of giveaways and competitions will take place, while Enchanted Entertainment and POP Big Bubbles will keep the young ones busy with activities and entertainment.
Major sponsor, Mitre 10 MEGA are providing a $200 gift voucher for the winner of the ‘dress up your buggy’ competition and will have their inflatable bouncy castle on-site.
Occurring on the first Thursday of each month, the walks take place at a different location every month and aim to provide parents and caregivers with the opportunity to discover some of the many buggy friendly walking tracks throughout the Wellington region.
