Under Veranda Lighting Trial for Gisborne CBD
Under veranda lighting trial for CBD
New LED lighting under shop verandas in the CBD will be trialled to investigate a long-term solution to improve visibility and security.
General manager of Tairāwhiti Roads Dave Hadfield says the lights will be mounted vertically against the existing light poles to provide the best quality light both across shop frontages and the footpath.
The lighting will be installed in Gladstone Road between Peel and Lowe streets initially to test the effectiveness of the light spread and compatibility with security cameras.
We’ve been underway with the first stage to upgrade CBD street lights to LED which provided the basis of lighting while a suitable pole mounted solution was found” says Mr Hadfield.
The light, fixed to the back of the poles facing the footpath, has a stainless-steel mounting system and has an IK09 impact rating which translates to being capable of withstanding impact of a hammer.
The luminaire is 16watt cost less than $300 each, has a 22-year life expectancy. The cover is diffused so there's no glare.
Installation by contractors Electrinet is due to start 26 September following consultation with local retailers.
Mayor Meng Foon says "I'm excited with this project, brighter, safer and better value for money."
