Citizen of the Year Award Nominations Close Friday 6 October
Council is reminding people that nominations for the Citizen of the Year Awards close soon on Friday 6 October 2017.
Ruapehu Mayor Don Cameron said that Ruapehu’s Citizen of the Year Awards was an opportunity to recognise the people who provided the backbone for many of the essential community services that we all rely on someone doing every day.
“These are the fantastic, selfless, volunteer workers in our communities who are always stepping up and helping out, or chipping away behind the scenes to get things done, and working to make someone else’s life better,” he said.
“I would really like to encourage people to have a think about the people they know like this and to nominate them for the award.”
“There is a Northern Ruapehu Citizen Award covering the northern part of the district from National Park Village north, and the Waimarino Citizen Award for the Waimarino-Waiouru area, and you can re-nominate anyone who has been unsuccessful in the past.”
“We now need their friends, colleagues and admirers to put them forward for the recognition they deserve.”
“As there is only one northern, and one southern award per year, we would also like to encourage people to re-nominate anyone who has been nominated but unsuccessful in the past.”
“Council feels strongly that it is important that we take the time and effort to recognise and thank the many amazing people undertaking volunteer work in our communities.”
“The Citizen Awards are an opportunity to give some of these people the recognition and thanks that they deserve,” he said.
“Nomination forms including the criteria for nominees is available from Council offices, by calling Council, or via the website, www.ruapehudc.govt.nz.
