Pat Dougherty Named as Nelson City Council Chief Executive
New Nelson City Council Chief Executive Announced
Nelson City Council has completed its recruitment process for a new Chief Executive and would like to announce the appointment of Mr Patrick (Pat) Dougherty to the role.
Mr Dougherty is currently the Chief Executive of Kāpiti Coast District Council, a role he has held for the past 9 years. Prior to his role on the Kāpiti Coast, Mr Dougherty was Deputy Chief Executive at Nelson City Council.
Mayor Rachel Reese was delighted to make the announcement today. “We are extremely fortunate to have secured not only an experienced Chief Executive but someone with a significant amount of local knowledge. Pat was a standout candidate, and we warmly welcome him back to Nelson after 9 years away."
“Pat brings to us a wealth of knowledge gained in leadership in local government. He is highly regarded as a Chief Executive who can build cohesion across local authority boundaries, and he brings a strong understanding of our role as a unitary authority."
“We have secured a candidate who will not only effectively lead the people in this organisation, but has the expertise and experience to provide sound advice and guidance to elected members. Pat understands how to build relationships with the community and he believes in the value of partnership.”
Mr Dougherty was excited to return to Nelson. “I’m looking forward to returning to Nelson, a place which is special to me and my family. I’ve watched Nelson continue to strengthen and grow as a region, and there are a number of significant and innovative projects that are contributing to that growth. It’s an exciting time to be coming back to the city to help lead Nelson City Council.”
