Three Big Questions for Auckland’s Rainbow Communities
Three big questions for Auckland’s rainbow communities
The Rainbow Communities Advisory Panel (RCAP) at Auckland Council are asking three big questions of Auckland’s rainbow communities:
1) What are your dreams for Auckland?
2) How can council help achieve this?
3) If you could change one thing about Auckland tomorrow, what would it be?
The RCAP is one of six demographic advisory panels established by council to offer strategic advice to the council on regional policies, strategic issues and matters of interest to their community or sector. Their insights are vital to informing the work of council staff and recommendations presented to council decision-making authorities and committees.
This information will help the RCAP will use to develop a work plan. The report generated from this project will also be a valuable resource for wider council policy development and funding opportunities for community organisations.
We have three ways you can get involved:
1. Take our survey: https://www.3questions.co.nz/
2. Come to our hui on September 11, 6:30pm - 8:30pm, Studio One.
3. Or organise a gathering of your friends to gather feedback and we will chip in to help with any costs like food, childcare or transport!
The animation for this consultation was developed and created by the iconic local comic artist Sam Orchard and the website was developed by rainbow communities communications expert Toni Duder.
“The Auckland Council Rainbow Communities Advisory Panel wants to create picture of our rainbow communities in Auckland - Where we are strong and flourishing, where our challenges are and where we need some support. We are a huge community with a range of voices, experiences, identities and abilities. And we all have different cultures, ideas, values and dreams. And we want to hear from YOU!”
- Julie Radford-Poupard and John Kingi, co-chairs of the RCAP
“What a fabulous opportunity to use edgy ways with DIY hui, it means groups to be able to use their own processes to surface their own voices. I really hope that people pick up this opportunity and run with it ”
- Cissy Rock, Project Lead from Community Think Ltd

Note - The demographic advisory panels are
one of the ways Auckland Council engages with its diverse
communities. The panels provide advice to the Governing Body
and council staff regarding Auckland Council’s regional
policies, plans and strategies, regional and strategic
matters including those that Council-Controlled
Organisations deal with any matter of particular interest or
concern to diverse communities. Members of the advisory
panels are not Auckland Council staff members, and their
views don’t necessarily reflect those of Auckland Council.
The members of the advisory panels applied for the position,
and were appointed by the mayor with the endorsement of the
governing
body.
