Political Cutz Finds a
Rather Grand Home
Public Trust Building to Become Pop-up Salon
The Wellington Architecture Centre describes the
Public Trust building as ‘possibly the most
architecturally elaborate façade in the capital’, which
seems almost too perfect for a venue mixing 80s decor, free
haircuts, and New Zealand politics. Political Cutz
will set up shop for just five days and will liven
Lambton Quay with its space designed to welcome non-partisan
political dialogue and cool hip 80s fashion lovers alike.
“We’re excited to bring our pop up salon to the heart of government and bureaucracy in NZ - we are only a short walk from Parliament itself!” says Jason Muir, hairdresser and head honcho for Political Cutz 2017.
“The Public Trust building has been beautifully restored and provides a very grand backdrop to our salon. The space itself is large and is going to allow us room to include even more fun interactions all in the name of making politics fun and accessible. Political ping pong anyone?”
Since completing earthquake strengthening in 2015, the building has been home to Ministry of Culture & Heritage, and almost became a Jamie Oliver restaurant. Urban Dream Brokerage has facilitated other events in the ground floor space including Galathea: Into the Bush, Rainbow Community Space, and Project Fashion Wellington.
Presented by Barbarian Productions and Maverick Creative, Political Cutz is a pop-up salon featuring free haircuts, cheap coffee, and friendly hosts providing a comfortable space for political conversation and engagement (without the polls). Political Cutz is supported by Wellington City Council Public Art Fund, Good Fortune Coffee co., KPMG, UNICEF New Zealand, Urban Dream Brokerage and our Boosted campaign donors.
