Social Socks Workshops Benefit from Local Initiatives Fund
Social Socks Charitable Trust was one of the successful organisations to receive funds from Palmerston North City Council’s Local Initiatives Fund in the last funding round. Their funding has been used for a series of free workshops and seminars hosted by John Parsons, an internet safety and risk assessment consultant, around the safe use of digital technology. Topics to be covered are: online grooming; sexting; damaging reputations and how to protect and educate young people and families.
The series includes a seminar for health professionals, a seminar for those working with children and young people, a workshop for young people, a network meeting for Palmerston North schools, and open evenings for parents and senior citizens. The workshops and seminars will run from 24 – 27 October. More information on these workshops is available from info@socialsocks.co.nz
The Local Initiatives Fund is now open for applications. The grant scheme is an opportunity for not-for-profit groups, and organisations to develop new activities and unique initiatives that can make a real difference in Palmerston North.
“We encourage people who have a great idea or a project to consider submitting an application,” says Debbie Duncan, General Manager – Libraries and Community Services. “We’re particularly interested in ideas that increase social connectedness, in neighbourhoods and disadvantaged communities, or projects that result in active citizenship.”
Applicants should read the Local Initiative Fund guidelines on www.pncc.govt.nz. Applications close on 25 September.
