Public Consultation for Tāmaki Open Space Network Plan
The Tāmaki Open Space Network Plan (TOSNP) was presented for adoption at the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board business
meeting last night. After feedback from the community, the board deferred the adoption and requested council officers to
undertake a comprehensive public consultation instead.
“We held a drop-in information session for our community last week and the consistent message we received that the
community wanted more time to digest such a comprehensive and seemingly complicated document.”
“Our board lives and breathes that we are here to represent and serve our community, we could not in good conscience
approve a plan that our community is telling us they are not comfortable with or don’t understand.”
“We have asked council officers to undertake a full public consultation on the draft plan that is most importantly easy
to understand and then report back to us with feedback on community’s aspirations, so we can take these into
consideration when adopting the final plan.”
The Tāmaki Open Space Network Plan sets out a series of actions that will be implemented over the next 10 to 15 years to
deliver a high quality open space network across the Tāmaki Development area. The majority of the plan falls within the
Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board area, with a lesser area within the Ōrākei Local Board area.
