New City Mission Store to join Petone’s lively op-shopping scene!
18/08/2017
The Wellington City Mission is looking forward to becoming part of Petone’s lively op-shopping scene with the launch of their brand new City Mission Store on Jackson Street next week!
It has been more than a year since The Mission opened the doors to their first charity shop in Wellington City and they’re excited about taking this next step in the Hutt Valley.
Just like the Wellington City counterpart, the City Mission Store in Petone will be home to quality recycled goods such as clothing, shoes, books, furniture, household items and games. Not only will it be a great place to pick up a bargain, but everything bought or donated will support The Mission’s work with people in need.
For The Mission, making the decision to open a store in the Hutt Valley is particularly exciting because of the extensive work they do in the area. Last year, 54% of the families and 74% of the seniors they worked with lived in the Hutt Valley.
Chief Executive Officer Michelle Branney said: “We’re really looking forward to the more visible presence in the Hutt Valley that our second store in Petone will bring. Our Community Services social workers, elder support workers and nurses have worked in Petone and the wider Hutt Valley for over a decade. It’s such an important area for us because so many of our clients, particularly families and older people, live in the region. Opening another shop is also a great way to serve the community in a different way.”
Like many charities, The Mission faces increasing challenges to fundraise the amount needed to run their programmes and services, so the income brought in by a social enterprise like this new charity store will be beneficial both now and in the future.
Located at 228 Jackson Street, the store officially opens on Friday 25 August at 9am. It will be open from 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am – 3pm Saturdays. Once the store is open donated items can be dropped off during opening hours, or collected for free from homes and workplaces. If you would like to donate items or you want to know more, please call 0800 245 542, email collect@citymissionstore.nz, or visit citymissionstore.nz.
