Plan early consultation closes tomorrow

People in Timaru have until tomorrow to have their initial input into council spending priorities over the next 10 years.

The first pre-consultation stage of its Long Term Plan 2018 – 2028 process, branded ‘Our Place, Our Future?’ comes to a close tomorrow.

People still have time to have their say about our future spending commitments, what kind of facilities they think we’ll need in the future, how we’re going to fund it or anything else they think is important for the future of our district.

A survey and supporting information available online at Timaru.govt.nz. Topics covered include cultural and learning facilities, roading, water supply, the Council’s role in the social wellbeing of our community and even the balance between how the Council raises money and how it spends it to provide the services people use.

Mayor Damon Odey says it’s important for people to get in early to help shape the foundations of the plan.

“Can you believe it is three years ago that I first asked you to grab your granny, your whanau, your mates, your work colleagues and get discussing and debating just what it is you want in that plan?

“The Council has to review the LTP every three years but we need your help. Results from our latest community survey showed that the district is going well and the Council isn’t doing too bad either.

“However there are some areas where further comment from you would be really helpful and so I am asking you to take part in a survey commenting on these areas and any other matters you, your whanau, friends and work colleagues think that the Council needs to be looking at.

“It’s time to get involved, let us know what you think by tomorrow. The results of the survey are reported to Council and used to help develop the 2018 – 2028 LTP. We really need your thoughts and ideas, so please complete the survey and thanks in advance of you taking part.”

The easiest way to complete the survey is online at www.timaru.govt.nz. Hard copies of the survey can also be picked up from the Council Building, and its Libraries and Service Centres in Geraldine and Temuka.
