It’s Voting Time! for Timaru Ward electors
Voting papers for the Timaru Ward by-election should start arriving in Timaru Ward electors mailboxes from Monday 14 August. All papers are expected to be delivered by Saturday 19 August.
People who have not received their papers by then should contact the Timaru District Electoral Officer, Mark Low on 03 687 7200 to arrange a special vote.
Timaru Ward electors can cast their votes from Monday 14 August.
As the by-election only applies to the Timaru Ward of the Timaru District Council, Pleasant Point-Temuka and Geraldine Ward electors do not get to vote.
The election uses the First Past the Post (FPP) system, with electors required to put a tick alongside the candidate they wish to vote for. Names are listed in random order on the voting document.
A Candidate Profile Sheet is included with the voting documents, including 150 word profile statements from the five candidates. These can also be read now on the TDC website – https://www.timaru.govt.nz/council/elections/timaru-ward-byelection-2017
Voting papers are being processed by electionz.com, an elections service provider based in Christchurch. The election is a postal vote.
Anyone not on the electoral roll will need to request special voting papers, electoral officer Mark Low says:
“The last date to enrol [to vote for this by-election] is Monday 4 September. I would encourage anyone who has not yet registered - to do so, and cast a special vote.”
Special votes will only be available by contacting or visiting the Council office in Timaru or by emailing elections@timdc.govt.nz.
Voting closes midday on Tuesday 5 September.
