Volunteers Shine in Palmerston North Civic Honour Awards
Civic Honour Awards chance for volunteers to shine
Muhammad Ali once said: “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.”
In Palmerston North there are plenty of residents doing more than their share of service and Palmerston North City Council wants to recognise these outstanding volunteers.
Nominations for the 2017 Civic Honour Awards, the city’s highest recognition for voluntary service, are open.
“Volunteers don’t help others for the recognition they might receive, but we think our outstanding volunteers deserve a public thank you from the Mayor on behalf of the city,” awards organiser Lisa Guthrie says.
“The Civic Honour Awards are also a fantastic chance to highlight the work of the organisations the volunteers serve.”
Volunteers of any age can be nominated, and citizens can be nominated for the quality of their commitment or the length of their service.
Nominating organisations need to summarise the volunteer’s service, particularly the impact of their work on the city.
“I’m happy to provide advice on completing the form and have a chat about the criteria,” Ms Guthrie says. “I am only a phone call away.”
She has organised the awards for 13 years and enjoys seeing proud families watch their loved ones receive their Civic Honour Award from the Mayor.
If the nomination is successful, the Council provides a professional writer to interview the award recipients to flesh out their nominations and write a citation.
Nomination forms can be downloaded from pncc.govt.nz or collected from the Council's Customer Service Centre or libraries.
Nominations close on Thursday 31 August and the awards will be presented at the Palmerston North Conference & Function Centre on Monday 13 November.
