A 45-year-old man was found deceased in the Opihi River bed near Fairlie at approximately 10.30pm Tuesday 1 August.
The death has been treated as suspicious.
The post-mortem was carried out today and investigations are focused on ascertaining the cause of injuries that the deceased man has sustained.
The location where he was found has been secured by Police and will continue to be held until tomorrow morning.
No further information will be available today.
