Napier Winter Deco Weekend - Weather Looking Cold, but Dry

Weather looking cold but dry for this weekend’s events
This weekend’s events are all still on track for the Winter Deco Weekend, with the weather looking like it will hold, as rain radars indicate showers clearing on Friday night and potentially returning on Monday.
Glen Pickering, Art Deco Trust Festival Director said, “After an unprecedented high amount of rain during the summer festival, it’s been a tense week of weather watching and crossing fingers at the Art Deco Trust.”
This year’s Tremains Art Deco Festival received the worst weather in the event's history with 105.4mm of rain across the Festival. “It was the first time in 17 years it had rained heavily, so there was no coincidence we've been hoping for better weather during winter” said Pickering.
Pickering said “During Winter Deco we don’t hold many outdoor events because we know the weather is very unpredictable at this time of year. On Saturday we have a car and fashion parade down Emerson St, culminating with the Fashion Flaunt competition on Market St. People put a lot of effort into creating and organising their outfits for this, so to have fine weather is wonderful”.
Outdoor events on Saturday start at 11.30am at the top of Emerson Street, outside the Emporium, with music, dancing, followed by the Dress and Process parade, the Fashion Flaunt Competition and the Hawke’s Bay Vintage Car Club offering gold coin donation rides in their wonderful vintage cars from 12.30pm.
Should unforeseen showers interrupt the afternoon’s activities; the Fashion Flaunt competition will take place at the County Hotel in the main restaurant.
There are still tickets available for some of the indoor events happening throughout the weekend, including the High Society Soiree, Speakeasy Burlesque and Winter Cafe Crawl.
Pickering said, “With the snow around at the moment it means its colder than normal but the winter fashion is about lovely thick coats, gorgeous hats and fur wraps so it’s easy for Winter Deco Weekend participants to stay warm, and look stylish and elegant all at the same time”.

Winter Deco Weekend is on from Friday 14 July till Sunday 16 July.
