300 Lions guests at Alexandra Park were ‘absolutely brilliant’
Alexandra Park has described being an official pop-up campervan site as a great experience during the two All Blacks vs
The British & Irish Lions Tests at Eden Park.
This weekend another 300 Lions fans stayed in their campervans at Alexandra Park, with several to stay on again tonight.
“As guests they’ve been absolutely brilliant and it has been a pleasure to have them. They were in such good spirits,
loved a good laugh, and were clearly buoyed by the Test series being a draw. They were no problem whatsoever and I hope
we can do it again one day,” says Joel Reichardt, Alexandra Park’s Sales & Marketing Manager.
“We were delighted to work with Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) to help the city cope with the
influx of fans and ensure they had a great visit to Auckland.”
Facilities available to campers at Alexandra Park’s non-powered sites included plenty of toilets and showers, dumping
facilities, charging stations, on-site security, a pop-up information centre and 24/7 telephone helpline, not to mention
access to their licenced premises, specific food and beverage deals, and free entry to Alexandra Park’s Friday night
trots.
Mr Reichardt says Alexandra Park’s newly upgraded onsite sports bar, the Alex Bar & Eatery, was a hive of activity and atmosphere over the weekend with many All Blacks supporters also enjoying the
banter.
During the Lions tour Alexandra Park fielded a number of media enquiries, including from The Guardian, with reporters
curious as to how the Lions fans were faring.
“This has given New Zealand some great publicity, and I was so proud to hear of the wonderful experiences the Lions fans
have had around the country. They really embraced the tour, and so we were delighted to play a small and positive role
in it.”
Mr Reichardt says what made him laugh the most was just how many Lions fans were getting around in their red
short-sleeve shirts and shorts despite the cold and rainy weather, with many claiming the weather was still better than
what they were used to!
