Hāpai Te Hauora takes Māori Voices to Council doorstep

Press Release: Hāpai Te Hauora takes Māori Voices to Council doorstep

Today Hāpai Te Hauora delivers the voices from Māori communities on the local board plans in Tāmaki Makaurau to the doorstep of Auckland Council. The three owner organisations of Hāpai Te Hauora - Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua, Raukura Hauora o Tainui and Te Whānau o Waipareira Trust have championed Māori participation in local government process by supporting Māori to submit on the issues that are important to them, their whānau, hapū and iwi.

"This collective action promotes the fact that it can be really easy for Māori to be involved in decision-making when they are supported to do so" says Anthony Hawke, General Manager Māori Public Health for Hāpai Te Hauora.
"We've seen a huge range of responses highlighting the diversity of interests amongst our Māori communities. From normalising Te Reo to road safety to rangatahi programmes and more."

Today, three generations of Hawke's family from Ngāti Whatua ki Orakei (pictured) hand delivered the aspirations of Māori communities in the form of the 360 submissions to the local board plans.
