New funding available for North Shore projects

New funding available for North Shore projects.
North Shore organisations are now able to benefit from a brand-new funding round that focuses specifically on community projects in the area.
This is the first year of grant making for the North Shore Fund, the most recent addition to Auckland Foundation’s annual granting.
Launched last year with the support of Sir Stephen Tindall, the North Shore Fund was established as a way of encouraging North Shore residents to think about giving back to their community.
The fund also has high profile support on its advisory committee from longtime Birkenhead resident and well-known personality Judy Bailey.
She believes that the community-directed and -funded approach is key; “Auckland is a collection of villages and we need to focus on our village. There are extremes – we have a lot of very wealthy people but we also have a lot of people who are struggling, a lot of young families and I would love to see them being supported more.”
Auckland Foundation is calling for applications from groups with projects that address social disadvantage, promote health and wellbeing, or strengthen community in the areas of Devonport-Takapuna, Kaipātiki, Upper Harbour, and Hibiscus and Bays.
Grants are available up to $5,000, and will be targeted at those predominantly volunteer-run organisations that otherwise don’t get a lot of funding.
Auckland Foundation CEO, Dellwyn Stuart says,
“Grassroots organisations are vital to local communities – so often these are the groups who, despite limited resources, are the ones making a difference. Auckland Foundation is delighted to be involved with the North Shore Fund, and we look forward to hearing about and supporting some of the important work being done in the area.”
Applications open on 1 July, and close on 10 August. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of September.
Both the application form and guidance notes are available to download from the Auckland Foundation website, www.aucklandfoundation.org.nz.
