Friday deadline for By-Law Feedback
Timaru District residents have until Friday to help shape the rules surrounding many everyday issues.
We’re seeking early public feedback on our bylaws as part of the bylaw review process. Feedback can be made on-line at timaru.govt.nz/bylaw-review, by returning the freepost forms in the Council noticeboard in The Courier and The Timaru Herald, or by emailing submission@timdc.govt.nz.
There is still time for people to get their views into Council – the opportunity for this early input closes this Friday 30 June.
So far ideas have been received on a wide range of topics– from dogs to speed limits, freedom camping to derelict buildings. All of the feedback will be considered as part of the review process.
Timaru District Council Environmental Compliance Manager Paul Cooper said that it was important for people to have their input into the rules that affect the way we live, work and play in certain areas.
“Bylaws cover protecting the public from nuisance, minimising offensive behaviour, health, safety and a range of environmental issues.
“Currently we are reviewing our bylaws to keep them relevant and address any emerging issues. We want to hear from you as to anything you think should be covered by bylaws, either by creating a new bylaw or reviewing our existing chapters.
“This is an early, informal opportunity to feed your thoughts into the bylaw review process. Any input will be considered as part of the review of the bylaws.
“It covers everything from how many chickens you’re allowed to have in your garden, to what the speed limit outside your house is and lots of other small, but important things in your every day lives.”
The survey rates your satisfaction with the current local bylaws, asks you to identify any things you think we need to change and new areas where you feel we need to regulate. It only takes five minutes to fill in and can make a huge difference in the community.
The survey is available at timaru.govt.nz/bylaw-review
