Full steam ahead for Pukekohe Station
Auckland Transport has selected Downer to deliver the main construction works on the Pukekohe Station upgrade after a recently completed competitive tender process.
The $15.4 million project will cover the build of the new park and ride area, improved bus station facilities and a pedestrian overbridge at the new integrated bus and train station. Construction is expected to begin in July and be completed in early 2018.
New station facilities will link bus services with the existing rail services. Commuter parking space and cycle parking will be provided along with improved connections to the local road and footpath networks.
Franklin Local Board chairwoman Angela Fulljames says, “The Franklin Local Board is very pleased Auckland Transport is investing in Pukekohe to provide a modern standard of facility with better and easier connections to improve the customer experience.”
Social and economic procurement was a key element in the tender process for Pukekohe Station and the successful contractor will be engaging with the Southern Initiative for the project.
Auckland Transport’s Group Manager of Capital Works, Andrew Scoggins says “Downer’s tender submission stood out for its focus on delivering quality outcomes. To ensure that we leveraged the best socio-economic outcomes for South Aucklanders, we also require Downer to work with the Southern Initiative to employ local people where possible.”
Jim Galloway, Downer’s Infrastructure Projects Project Director, is pleased the company will play a critical part in the next stage of development of Pukekohe Station
“Downer is delighted to be involved and looks forward to starting work with the Pukekohe community, seeing this exciting project through to successful delivery for all stakeholders.”
