Bluegums landfill gets improved buffer
An expanded buffer area between the Blenheim landfill and residential property is being put in place in Taylor Pass
Road.
Council has acquired a property at 309 Taylor Pass Road, on the immediate boundary of the Bluegums landfill.
The land would also provide a site for a pyrolysis timber treatment plant, one of the projects in Council’s forthcoming
Annual Plan.
Solid Waste manager Alec McNeill says it’s a strategic investment, at a cost of $4.37M, which will provide security for
Blenheim’s waste management operations well into the future.
“As Blenheim and Marlborough grow, it’s likely we’ll need to expand our waste and recycling and potentially introduce
new services, including composting and other initiatives.”
“We are fortunate to be able to acquire this land on behalf of the community, as it removes the risk of any future
boundary issues with landowners wanting to build closer to the landfill.”
