Bird scarers to be installed
Council will be installing 13 bird
scarers in Elm and Plane trees along Broadway Avenue and The
Square.
Bird scarers are being permanently installed in an effort to curb bird droppings caused as a result of birds roosting in trees.
Installation has commenced this week, and will be complete by the end of June.
The audible bird scarers are individual units with attached speakers that use noise stimuli to deter birds from roosting in trees.
Bird scarers will not operate during the day, so retailers and general public will not be disturbed. Units will be on a timer once installed.
“Birds come into roost in the evening, and fly off early morning. The noise will only occur at dusk or dawn. We will alter the times, as seasons change and daylight hours lengthen.” says Council Horticultural Engineer Murray Phillips.
Plane trees outside the Conference & Function Centre on Main Street, will receive sonic units opposed to the standard audible unit.
“After hour functions are often held at the Centre, so these units will deliver a static noise that only birds will hear.”
