Support the City Mission’s Winter Appeal when you buy your next caffeine pick-me-up!
Winter can be a really challenging time for people who are in need. Many families and individuals are forced to make incredibly hard choices – like whether they can heat their homes, buy hearty food, or get warm clothing for their kids.
The Wellington City Mission is working to take away those hard choices, but they cant do it alone! Theyre asking people across Greater Wellington to get behind their Winter Appeal and help ensure people across our region can be healthy and warm this winter.
There are many different ways that businesses, families and individuals can get involved in this appeal, including an exciting new campaign called The Greater Wellington Pick Me Up! For one week, from Monday 29 May – Sunday 4 June, people across Greater Wellington will have the chance to add a .50c donation to their coffee purchase at participating cafés. Every .50c donation gives you an entry into a special prize draw to win a coffee every day for a year! There are more than 50 cafés spanning the Hutt Valley, Wellington City and Porirua that are taking part in the campaign. For a full list of participating cafés head to wellingtoncitymission.org.nz/pickmeup.
The Mission is excited to officially launch The Greater Wellington Pick Me Up this weekend at The Wellington Food Show! Taking place from 26 – 28 May at Westpac Stadium, its The Missions third year at the event as Official Charity Partner. Along with launching the Pick Me Up, theyll be giving people who visit their booth the chance to ‘donate and win’ an ultimate Food Show prize pack!
People can also enter this draw by purchasing a brand new Mission keep cup from their Food Show booth! These reusable cups are perfect for regular coffee drinkers who want to support The Mission and look after our environment. If you cant make it to The Food Show, check out wellingtoncitymission.org.nz/keepcups for details on how to purchase one online.
The Winter Appeal also includes The Missions iconic Brown Paper Bag Collection. Look out for their return-addressed donation envelope and special brown paper bag in the Dominion Post on Thursday 8 June, then make your choice – will you support by donating „the money or by filling „the bag with goods?
As an official charity partner of the Hurricanes, The Mission will also be collecting at the Hurricanes vs Chiefs game at Westpac Stadium on Friday 9 June! If youre attending the game, look out for their collectors around the stadium and give generously to support The Winter Appeal.
The Mission is looking forward to having people across Greater Wellington involved in all of these exciting activities. The generous donations received during The Winter Appeal will ensure they can continue working with people who are struggling, especially during the cold winter months. They will provide families and individuals with food parcels and hot meals, while also continuing to offer year-round services such as budgeting advice and in-home social work.
Wellington City Mission Chief Executive Officer Michelle Branney said: “However you choose to get involved, your support will mean so much to the hundreds of families and individuals who will receive help from our programmes and services! Thanks for choosing to support The Mission this winter!”
Last year The Mission provided close to 2,800 food parcels from our Foodbank and over 29,000 meal servings in our Drop-in Centre. Our Budgeting Advice service enabled people to pay back over $107,000 in debt! (Based on 2016-17 financial year).
