HIGH PRESSURE SETTLES IN FOR THE WEEKEND
Any remaining showers in the current southwest flow will ease tomorrow as a ridge of high pressure builds from the west. However, Northland continues to hang onto showers.
“In fact, the east of the South Island and central North Island can look forward to a sunny end to the working week, though morning temperatures will be a little chilly,” commented meteorologist April Clark.
Looking ahead the story continues to be written by the ridge of high pressure. The North Island enjoys mostly fine weather apart from a few showers which linger in regions north of Auckland. Clear skies dominate over the east coast of the South Island, while some showers are forecast for the west as a weak front battles to move north. Overnight Sunday, a pluckier front is expected to move onto the far south and then over the rest of the South Island into Monday.
“Conditions also begin deteriorate on Monday for the lower and eastern regions of the North Island, which should expect to see more cloud and the odd shower”
Ms Clark went on to say, “At this stage, ANZAC Day is looking dry for most New Zealanders. Only those heading to dawn services in Buller and the east coast of the North Island look like they may need to take an umbrella”
