International and home grown experts in town for wastewater forum

18 April 2017

The Palmerston North City Council is hosting a free Wastewater Forum on 21 April featuring international and home grown experts. The public are invited to attend.

“How we deal with wastewater is an important issue for our city and has a significant impact on the health of our river,” says Robert van Bentum, Water & Waste Services Manager at Palmerston North City Council.

“The forum is a great opportunity to learn about current trends and best practices in wastewater treatment, and to start thinking about the best options for Palmerston North as we look to the future.”

The one day event will feature guest speakers from the USA, Australia and New Zealand. There will also be two panel discussions, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions.

“We’re encouraging anyone who is interested in this issue to come along. It’s a free event and the speakers really are experts in their fields. We’ve also invited Councillors and decision makers from local and regional Councils, technical staff from local Councils, and representatives of various community groups and iwi.”

Guest speakers include:

Charles Bott - Director of Water Technology and Research at Hampton Roads Sanitation District, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

Kevan Brian – Senior Wastewater Process Engineer at Mott MacDonald in Brisbane

Alison Lowe – Wastewater Treatment Specialist at Rotorua Lakes Council

Bob Rubin – Emeritus Professor of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at North Carolina State University

The Forum is being held on Friday 21 April from 9am to 4pm at the Palmerston North Convention & Function Centre on Main Street.
