WEATHER UPDATE: Water levels receding
Water levels in Christchurch are receding as the rain eases off.
Cyclone Cook is bringing heavy rain to Christchurch.
The worst of the rain from Cyclone Cook has passed and the forecast is for increasingly fine conditions.
There are areas of surface flooding around Christchurch but water levels are receding.
"We had a lot of rain overnight and this morning which has caused some surface flooding on the roads, which we expected
given the amount of rainfall we've had.
"We've had to close the intersection of Maces and Ruru roads, in Bromley, because of flooding and reduce a stretch of
Fitzgerald Ave down to one lane northbound. We've also had to close off Riverlaw Tce due to flooding. These are known
flooding risk spots and we often get surface flooding in these locations after big rainfall events.
"We've had temporary pumps operating in the Flockton area and while there has been surface flooding there too, no
properties have been flooded,'' Mr Adamson said.
"The good news is the worse of the rain has passed and water levels are already dropping. We'll be keeping a close eye
on the areas hardest hit by the rain for the next few hours but the forecast is for improved conditions and we are not
anticipating any more flooding.
"IIf you are driving around the city and you do encounter some surface flooding please reduce your speed so you don't
cause it to wash onto adjacent properties,'' Mr Adamson said.
