Council working with developers to fast track Central City transport projects
Christchurch City Council and Ōtākaro Ltd are working with business and property owners on Central City transport
projects.
Parties met today at the Council to discuss the traffic layout in the Central City and a plan to accelerate the existing An Accessible City transport projects as quickly as possible to minimise the impact of the works on business and property owners.
General Manager Strategy & Transformation Brendan Anstiss says, “Any road works are a challenge for business and property owners, however the An Accessible Cityobjectives of creating a sustainable, compact, people and cycle friendly core were supported – we’re all on the same
page about wanting a vibrant and prosperous city.
“The Council and Ōtākaro Ltd acknowledge the important role property and business owners have in shaping our city, and
the significant investments they have made. We are absolutely committed to working with property and business owners to
make sure they are genuinely included in the process and their feedback is carefully considered before any major new An Accessible City works are started,” says Mr Anstiss.
“As a result of today’s meeting, we agreed to work closely with local property owners and businesses to review elements
of the St Asaph Street work including the provision of adequate on-street parking, the design and use of build-outs,
lane widths and the speed limit. We will do this as quickly as we can and build in any improvements to future designs.
We will meet with business and property owners within two weeks to progress this work.
“We acknowledge the importance of encouraging people to come back to the Central City. New parking buildings are now
open providing more than 1000 off-street car parks. The city has a lot to offer and we want people to come and
experience the Central City,” says Mr Anstiss.
