UPDATE 9AM

Work to re-open roads in Waikato district following flooding and slips

Work will continue today to re-open roads in the Waikato district, after extreme weather caused flooding and slips.

It is hoped that River Road, Tuakau, and the Tuakau Bridge-Port Waikato Road will be open to one lane later today however assessments are on-going. There are no concerns for the safety of people in the Port Waikato area or for the welfare of the children at the Port Waikato Camp.

People are advised that the Hakarimata track, and nearby tracks, are closed due to a slip and they should avoid the area.
