Masked Parade Theme competition open
The annual Nelson Arts Festival Masked Parade celebrates creativity in our community
Nelson Arts Festival organisers are asking the public to submit bold and creative ideas for the theme of this year’s
Nelson Masked Parade, one of Nelson’s most iconic arts events.
Ideas need to be able to be interpreted in many different ways, through mask, colour, costume, music, dance and
performance. They can incorporate fun and fantasy – think big and small, moving and shaking, rhythm and dance – as well
as messages and concepts that inspire people to take part.
The chosen theme will come to life in all its glory - in many different ways - on Friday 20 October 2017. The winner of
the Theme Competition will also have the chance to lead the parade and carry the Nelson Masked Parade banner.
Successful past themes include: Bouncy, Bold & Gold; Tallest, Maritime Adventures; Boldly Going Skyward; Sparkling Sustainable Future; The Playful Pacific; Myths & Legends, Adventurous Journeys; Earth, Wind & Fire; The World of Books and Flights of Fancy.
The deadline for ideas is 9am Monday 27 March.
The theme will be announced by Monday 3 April.
So get your thinking cap (or coat, or mask…) on, and submit your idea for the 2017 Masked Parade!
