Discharge from Moa Point Wastewater Treatment Plant (Wellington)

Last night there was a discharge of untreated wastewater from the Moa Point Wastewater Treatment Plant due to equipment failure. The discharge occurred at the short outfall pipe located near the Dog Pound.

Approximately 5,000m3 of untreated wastewater was discharged between 8.30pm and 10.30pm.

Health warning signs have been erected in Tarakena Bay and Heu Te Taka Peninsula and Regional Public Health has been informed. The beach at Lyall Bay has not been affected.

Water quality testing of the coastal waters near the discharge site is underway and will continue for three days.
