Excellent news regarding Forest of Tane – Greg O’Connor
“As one of the 200 people who attended the public meeting, and also having spent time in the forest, I am absolutely delighted for Tawa and indeed the people of Wellington that the Forest of Tane will now officially be preserved as an asset for current and future generations” Ohariu Labour Candidate Greg O’Connor said.
Mr O’Connor was commenting on the decision by the Council to purchase the forestry block known as the Forest of Tane which adorns the Western Hills of Tawa.
“The network of trails, the access to other tracks and the variety of fauna and flora in the forest, nestling into the local streets as it does, make the Councils’s long term investment a very wise and farsighted one” Mr O’Connor went on to say.
“The local Councillors Malcolm Sparrow, Jill Day, and Peter Gilberd are to be congratulated for supporting the project” Mr O’Connor said. “But the real credit should go to the people of Tawa who turned out in huge numbers at a public meeting organised and led by Wayne Pincott and Richard Herbert”.
Mr O’Connor encourages all Wellingtonians to visit the forest so they can appreciate not only the forest, but also the wisdom of the Councils decision to purchase it.
