Hundreds of cans of food have been donated to charity

17 February 2017

Hundreds of cans of food have been donated to charity, thanks to Love your library week

A total of $1651 of library debt was wiped by Waikato District Libraries during Love your library week in exchange for cans of food for local food banks.

The libraries – at Tuakau, Meremere, Huntly, Te Kauwhata, Ngaruawahia and Raglan – celebrated Love your Library week from 8 to 14 February.

“The week is a fantastic way to celebrate our libraries with our local communities,” says Customer Delivery Manager, Angela Parquist. “As part of the week, our libraries wiped overdue fines in exchange for cans of food. It was great to see approximately 300 cans of food donated to local food banks to help those in need.”

During the week there was a range of events, including pyjama parties, book folding sessions and an inter-library competition.

“It was great to see so many people come along and get involved. Our libraries are the hubs of their communities. We regularly have interesting events and activities so we encourage people to keep visiting their local library and to keep an eye on our website for library news.”
