Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band ready to boost Christchurch

Vbase is ready to welcome 30,000 Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band fans to AMI Stadium tomorrow night, 21 February for their first and only South Island concert.

Vbase General Manager Darren Burden says the concert will not only boost spirits, it will also add at least $10 million into the local economy.

“It will be a huge boost for the city’s hospitality industry, bringing thousands of extra visitors to Christchurch.”

Leading up to the concert Vbase has been working with partners, suppliers and expert consultants to ensure the best possible guest experience for an event of this size at AMI Stadium. Months of preparation will culminate with 600 Vbase staff members working at tomorrow’s event, along with 110 contractors and an additional 220 security personnel.

Transport for Christchurch and Christchurch City Council are working to ensure roads surrounding AMI Stadium are safe for all users. A traffic management plan is in place and road closures on Jack Hinton Drive and Twiggers Street will also help create a safe environment for pedestrians coming and going from the event.

“We have several ways to streamline public entry into the venue. Four gates will be open but ticket holders need to be aware they will only be granted access to the gate that is specified on their ticket. There is no onsite parking available because the precinct will have heavy pedestrian traffic, however mobility parking will be available for those with the required permit,” Darren Burden says.

Vbase is also advising ticket holders to be prepared and to arrive early to avoid congestion. Gates open at 3.30pm, but there will be food vendors and official merchandise on offer from noon onwards. Live music is scheduled to get underway at 5.00pm with support acts Marlon Williams and the Yarra Benders and Jet, before Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band hit the stage at 7pm.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are playing on the eve of the sixth anniversary of the Christchurch earthquake. They last performed for New Zealanders in Auckland in March 2014, where Springsteen dedicated a song to Christchurch.
