Detour to affect people travelling to and from Matamata
People travelling to and from Matamata on State Highway 24 will be detoured from Monday while month-long bridge works are done on the Waiomou Stream bridge.
The bridge is on State Highway 24 on the Matamata side of the intersection with Old Te Aroha Road.
A full road closure is needed while the bridge is strengthened and the deck is repaired. Once the work is finished heavy trucks will be able to use that route to access Matamata and beyond.
The NZ Transport Agency would like to apologise in advance for any frustrations caused while this essential work is carried out.
The work will start on Monday 13 February and will take three to four weeks.
The detours will be:
• South-bound traffic from Matamata uses State Highway 24 then Te Poi Road to State Highway 29 (allow an extra two minutes of travel time)
• North-bound traffic heading to Matamata uses State Highway 27 (allow an extra seven minutes of travel time)
The detour will be well sign-posted.
Local residents and traffic needing to access properties off State Highway 24 will have access maintained for the north and south to the bridge.
A temporary speed limit for 50km/h will be in place at the State Highway 27/29 intersection.
