Peter Wilson’s Good Works Continue

He was a positive force in the community while he lived, but now Peter Wilson’s good works continue in his memory.

Well known store manager at Kitchen Things, Palmerston North, and an active member of the Rotary Club of Takaro, Peter earned huge respect as a man prepared to put others first and a tireless worker for the community.

He had enormous passion for the next generation, particularly the students of Takaro and Somerset Cres Schools, where he devoted his time and energy to give them the best start in life.

After he passed away suddenly last year, Mark Jones, Founder of Kitchen Things, his wife Wendy and The Jones Family Business team were moved to create a trust in Peter’s name to ensure that those schools continued to benefit from the Peter’s legacy.

As a result, today The Peter Wilson Trust was launched with a gathering at the Cenotaph in Palmerston North to honour the man and acknowledge the significant cash bequest made in his name.

Deputy Mayor Tangi Utikere and local councillors of the Palmerston North City Council attended the gathering, along with Mark Jones, Founder and Managing Director of the Jones Family Business and Kitchen Things and his family, Peter Wilson’s family, staff from Kitchen Things (Palmerston North), Principal, Board members, staff, pupils and whanau from Takaro and Somerset Cres. Schools and members of the Rotary Club of Takaro.

Mark Jones said that Peter was a rare talent and the Jones family and staff were unanimous in their desire to celebrate his life in a special and enduring way.

“We hope that the Peter Wilson Trust will continue to enable talented and community-minded young people for many years to come,” he said.

Rotary Club of Takaro member and District Governor Elect Mitchell Brown echoed the sentiments, adding, “It is an extraordinarily generous bequest and it reflects just how much influence Peter had right throughout the community.

“We thank Mark and Wendy Jones, the entire Jones Family and staff of Kitchen Things for supporting the creation of this trust and ensuring that Peter’s name continues to be spoken with reverence,” he said.
